Landlocked is an art, culture and society publication born out of a desire to connect Zimbabweans across the globe. Driven by curiosity, we want to be the go-to source for original, untold and underrepresented stories centred on the multifaceted interests and experiences of Zimbabweans in the homeland and the diaspora while platforming a new generation of creative voices. We aim to uphold the highest standards of storytelling and to cater to a thriving, inclusive and diverse community by recognising the work of early-career, emerging and established writers and multimedia professionals.
Historically, being landlocked posed economic disadvantages that made international trade challenging. Countries without territorial access to ports lost out on trans-oceanic exchanges, but many nations overcame these obstacles, subverting the idea that being landlocked was an inevitable economic weakness. So, where does Landlocked, the publication, fit into all of this? Well, stories about Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans have, for too long, been told through a negative lens, one that undermines the complexity of everything our nation and people are. Landlocked hopes to reclaim the narrative, offering through stories a fuller, richer picture of what it means to be Zimbabwean.
